Over the past decade in Perth more than a few souls have gone out on the gospel limb to plant churches.  Some plants have closed down.  Some have flourished.  Some have struggled.  Very few have planted out again.

But some have. Simon Elliott, his wife Fi, and a core group of The Big Table, in the riverside suburb of south Perth not far from the city itself, took a deep breath, and aided by the breath of the Holy Spirit, planted a church in Simon and Fi’s house around a, er, big table (their smaller groups are called Dining Table, their one-on-ones are called Coffee Table, and their kids’ ministry is called Little Table.  I suggested Stable Table for a possible aged-care work, but Simon wisely demurred).

Well, anyway, here’s the great news; in two weeks time The Big Table plants again!  Here’s Simon well considered musing on how that has all happened and how God’s work is like planting avocados. It’s a must reader for any current or wannabe church planter.
