Ugly Fruit
![]()
This is what is known as Ugli fruit (spelling is correct – Ed)
Perhaps this post could have been entitled “If I were God I would…”. If I were God I would have made the tree of the knowledge of good and evil so ugly that this could never have happened.

I am doing a day retreat called iDesire and it struck me again just how deeply ingrained in our constitution desire is. It struck me that when God created everything good and desirous he also created this dangerous beauty called the “tree of the knowledge of good and evil”.
Our illicit desires so often appear no less “beautiful” in their presentation (a certain satisfaction/visually appealing/promise of personal advancement) than the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Yet the danger of course is the sting in the tail. What does not appear as “ugli fruit” at the outset, will certainly leave a sour taste in your mouth in the long run.

There is no guarantee that Jesus will return in our desired timeframe. Yet we have no reason to be anxious, because even if the timeframe is not guaranteed, the outcome is! We don’t have to waste energy being anxious; we can put it to better use.
